Only big gulps here! LiHo Tea beats out other boba tea vendors with its commitment to premium quality ingredients. The Singaporean brand forayed into Brunei and has stayed ever since, winning the hearts and taste buds of Bruneians with its rich, fragrant milk tea and variety of drink offerings.

Wanna know our favourite picks? The Cookie Machi with Pearl will satisfy any sweet tooth thanks to a genius combination of crushed cookie bits. Their Avo Delight or fruit smoothie series are wonderful picks if you’re looking for non-caffeinated options. The creamy goodness of the natural blended avocado base is the perfect partner for a swish of Gula Melaka in the Golden Avocado drink, or for a more refreshing edge, you can’t go wrong with The Brown Sugar Pearl with Avocado.

We also adore the bright tanginess of the Passion Roselle Smoothie, packed with antioxidants and naturally made syrups for true-to-fruit flavours. The Salted Caramel Coffee gives you a caffeine pick me up tempered by the warm sweetness of a house made Salted Caramel sauce. RICARDO’S

Who would’ve thought that you’d find authentic Mexican flavours right here in Brunei? Chef Mari’s deep-rooted love for her Mexican heritage and Chef Hakeem’s culinary training were a perfect marriage that led them to transform their Kuala Belait home into a cozy, homely dining restaurant — Ricardo’s La Galeria. It’s a go-to destination for those craving fantastic Mexican food in a laid-back setting, much like dining at your Abuelo’s home. One standout dish exclusive to this branch is Mole Enchiladas — a balance of rich, velvety cocoa-based sauce with tender shredded beef wrapped in soft tortillas. The saltiness of the feta cheese sprinkles enhance the deep, complex flavours of the chocolate and blended spice sauce, creating a truly unique harmony of taste.

Let’s taco ’bout it! We tried their fish, chicken and beef tacos and oh boy were we beyond words! Fresh seared tuna chunks are paired with a fried tortilla shell, shredded cabbage and chunks of zesty pineapple tang and a little extra juice to contrast the crispy shell. The beef taco is a shredded meaty delight topped with a hint of pickled radish and fresh cilantro to freshen up the hearty fillings. If you prefer chicken tacos you’ll love Ricardo’s version, infused with bold spices and reminiscent of a perfectly seasoned shawarma. Dipped in the trio of salsas (spice fiends will love the roasted chilli version), it might be hard to pick a favourite! Keep an eye for their newly launched El Patron Taco Truck , a 15-foot mobile kitchen that doubles as a taco trust and a full catering service. It’s the first taco truck in Brunei, and definitely something to look out for!

For those looking for something heartier, the Birria Burrito is loaded with fragrant rice, beans, and of course the all important slow-cooked beef, all wrapped in a warm, fresh tortilla. Feeling boujee? The Fileto Miñón Con Camarones will not disappoint. This medium-rare tenderloin steak wrapped in beef bacon, is seasoned to perfection, oozing with buttery goodness and topped with alfalfa sprouts for a subtle crunch.

Different brand name but ultimately the same great food! Ricardo’s El Mariachi is their Bandar branch with a twist. Deeply influenced by Chef Mari’s grandfather, a Mariachi, this restaurant incorporates the true essence of being a Mariachi. It’s fun and lively, complete with traditional folk music, making it perfect for anniversaries or any special occasion. The Paella Negra is exclusive to El Mariachi and this seafood party of shrimp, mussels and calamari cooked in earthy squid ink sauce and chunky short grain rice gives you a rich, slightly salty and sweet flavour profile with prominent “inkiness” whilst retaining each seafoods’ individual flavour.

But what else does Ricardo’s have in store? They’re about to launch the brand in Thailand, bringing the impeccable Latin flavours we know and love to new shores, with exciting developments in store for the brand.

SPAGHETTINI

When we think of opulent fine dining. Spaghettini at the Empire Brunei is the premier choice. The recently reopened establishment is back and dedicated as every to providing the ultimate top dining experience. With flavours and new recipes curated by Director of Culinary Ronaldo Manesco who hails from Italy, each dish embodies the beauty of Italian cuisine, focusing on simplicity and authenticity. The result is an intriguing fine dining  menu crafter from cherished memories of his grandmother’s kitchen, where the foundations of his culinary passion were born.

Flavoursome, yet light and simple, this ethos is translated into dishes like Gamberi, Insalata Cetrioli Melone (Prawn and avocado with citrus, cucumber, and watermelon). Fresh and bright flavours take a complementary role to the succulent prawn carpaccio. For the main, their 200 gram Filetto Di Manzano is pure joy. The expertly seasoned beef steak, buttery potato puree and mushroom reduction will ignite some core memory of comfort within you. A delicate sprinkling of beetroot powder brings you back to reality with its zingy citrus undertones.

Their Panna Cotta al Chocolatio Bianco al Frutto di Lamponi (White Chocolate Panna Cotta) with mixed berries, strawberry sauce and vanilla tuile is the perfect ending with fragrant vanilla notes and sweet-tart flavours.

NASI AYAM MENTIRI

Backed by the stellar reputation of its parent company, Pondok Sari Wangi Seafood, you know eating here is going to be great. Initially set up in the Mentiri village area to cater to residents, the deliciousness of their chicken rice won over the hearts and tummies of everyone else who came to dine here. So much so that they now have a second branch in Kiulap!

As their signature dish, the Nasi Ayam is of course, top choice. Succulent chicken roasted or steamed to juicy perfection served with a savoury sauce and crunchy cucumber slices make for the perfect partner to their fluffy plates of seasoned or plain rice. Make sure you load up on the ginger and scallion sauce that’s so moreish you’ll probably be eating it by the spoonful. For a little twist, the Nasi Lemak Chicken Chop has wonderful textures in play; a crunchy deep fried chicken cutlet, soft fragrant coconut rice, condiments like crisp peanuts and ikan bilis, and a saucy chilli-tomato sambal.

The underdog on the Nasi Ayam Mentiri menu? Their Fish Noodle Soup (only available at the Kiulap branch) is a complex tasting soup where local and fresh white fish chunks sit atop of a glorious seafood broth that is deeply savoury yet balanced with tang, sweetness and salty flavours where you can truly taste the sea. It’s a big bowl that fills you up with heartfelt cooking and love.

NAS RESTAURANT

Chef Nas’ devotion to cooking stems profoundly from his cherished teenage memories of helping out in the family kitchen. Those formative years ignited his culinary journey, making him one of Brunei’s most promising chefs. Nas Restaurant offers an international menu with a semi-fine dining concept where each dish is meticulously curated and deeply influenced by his culinary experience in the U.S., Italy and Malaysia.

Their Salmon Mentaiko Baked Rice badged 1st place in the ‘Brunei Food Award 2021 Best Dish’ category, for good reason. This is a bowl of umami creaminess, topped with torched housemade mentaiko sauce and a mildly sweet teriyaki sauce, with flaky portions of salmon combined for a warm and hearty dish your stomach can’t resist!

Chef Nas thrives on culinary experimentation, blending global flavours and inspiration into unique fusion dishes. One of his standout creations is the Carbonara Terubok — an immersive blend of Italian and Sarawakian influences. The traditional Carbonara sauce is flipped on its head with the addition of Ikan Terubok (fish eggs), savoury house made beef rashers, grated parmesan and a parmesan crisp tuile. We dare to call this perfection for its innovative and flawless execution of a comforting favourite. The Lamb Kebuli Rice with Cucumber yoghurt is simple yet satisfying — this dish literally screams comforting flavours. Tender, marinated lamb flaps are paired with fragrant, broth-infused rice, creating a harmonious base. The rich and creamy Korma sauce adds an indulgent touch, balanced by a refreshing yoghurt raita.

Nas Restaurant’s approach to Brunei-Malay fusion is equally incredible. Their Ayam Percik — smoked chicken doused with a thick and saucy marinade based described as if Bolognese and Sambal had a baby, is an addictive mix of tangy, spicy, and smoky. The addition of tempura-battered eggplant on the side provides a crisp, slightly peppery contrast. Their Kupang Masak Lemak Cili Api hits home with a bright turmeric coconut milk based infused with a tremendous mix of citrus forward spices and fiery chillies destined for spice lovers. The briny, meaty mussels have a subtle sweetness that will have you licking the brim of the sauce for its tantalising, creamy flavour!

NAGOMI

Stepping into Nagomi is like being whisked away to a quait self-service cafeteria in Japan, replete with a warm, enthusiastic “Irasshaimase!” greeting, vintage Japanese toys, nostalgic posters and vibrant artworks. A single bite of their Salmon Mentai Baked Rice will send you into pure food euphoria; perfectly seared salmon draped over a bed of warm Japanese rice, generously coated in the creaminess, most indulgent Japanese mayonnaise imaginable, topped with strips of seaweed, scallions and fish ro. This hearty and wholesome dish is perfect for sharing, leaving your tastebuds dancing with every bite you take.

Looking for something decadently savoury? Nagoya Hitsumabushi — rice served with grilled eel, glazed with a rich and smoky teriyaki sauce, could be the perfect choice. There are traditionally three unique steps of devouring this dish; eating it as is, with the small plate of dried seasonings, or “chazuke-style’ where one pours the house-made dashi soup to create a sort of rice-soup mix. We daresay the experience will make you feel you’re in Japan.

Be sure to look around the cafeteria for their scattered menus, meant to mimic the essence of Japanese mom-and-pop style cafeterias and create a truly authentic experience at Nagomi.
