Introduction to BiG

Borneo Insider’s Guide (biG) magazine is the definite quarterly news magazine that aims to entertain and inform discerning business and leisure traveller to Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak on essential tourist information, what to do andwhere to go amongst a whole menu of interesting articles gathered from a network of local journalists and photographers. Each issues serves as the world’s window into the rich, unique tapestry of Borneo’s life and culture.

The Magazine

Our Reach

Distribution in the rooms of four and five star hotels, cafes and restaurants throughout Borneo, the arrival hall of Brunei International Airport, Brunei Tourism offices, selected RBA flights, Sabah and Sarawak Tourism Board offices and other high-traffic tourist hubs all over Borneo. BiG is also available in selected bookstores in Brunei and Malaysia.

Media has earned its place as one of the prominent publishing houses in
Brunei Darussalam to date. Founded in 2006 by Wan Zainal Abidin Shazali, the company maintains its stellar track record for producing publications and printed products that exceed client expectations within the public and private sectors.

Project Manager

Wan Zainal Abidin Shazali
Wan has extensive experience in design and media; a former Oxford graduate and architect by training, he has utilised his passion for consumer design in work that includes premium clientele such as the Jerudong Park Medical Centre, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, Standard Chartered, Datastream Digital (DST) and the Brunei Tourism Development Board. Wan’s long‐term research into Consumer Behavioural Patterns means he has a unique skill in translating client needs into appropriate solutions that are suitable for their target markets. In his spare time, Wan travels the globe for inspiration and to fee his wanderlust.

Managing Editor

Ying Chia
With an extended history working across the hospitality and media industries, Ying previously set up and managed Heartwrite Co., one of the first independent English language publishing and communications houses in Brunei, after her days as a business reporter and feature writer for a former major news outlet in Brunei. Her experience with writing, teaching and book production means she has a keen sense of creativity and passion for engaging content creation and sharing stories with a reading public. She continues to feed people through her food businesses, and teach surfing when there are decent waves around.

Graphic Designer

Noor Aqilah Haji Abu Bakar
Aqilah is our in‐house designer who works on all CHMP projects and
commissioned publications. Our youngest talent has garnered a wealth of
experience in different areas of design including magazine layouts, brochures, digital image manipulation. She is also an incredibly talented illustrator who is able to bring vibrant life to concept briefs and directions. When she is not in the office, Aqilah can be found behind a camera or computer screen editing and creating digital lifestyle content.

Marketing and Communications Manager

Yasmin Jamal
A former media and communications graduate, Yasmin has in‐depth
knowledge and experience with the key aspects of marketing, proficient in
branding and sales across a number of industries including food and beverage. She is also experience in web design and user experience (UX). Yasmin is our resident information geek and recharges her creativity with movies and gaming.
