BiG Appetite : Yin Yang Cafe

It’s not easy to please everyone, especially when you run a restaurant but we dare say Yin Yang has got it in the bag (and name!). The love letter to her mother’s cooking and own heritage, Yin Yang Café is a true foodie’s endeavor and fusion in its most direct sense; marrying Asian and Western flavours with trending techniques and ideas, the menu changes seasonally as inspiration from travelling and global developments in the food scene take hold. This affirmation of duality, balance, innovation and comfort eats resulted in some of the more unusual and delicious meals you’ll find in Brunei.

Their beloved Nasi Lemak Classic gets a fusion makeover into a Japanese sushi roll – risky, if done in the wrong hands, but at Yin Yang it’s become another signature menu item for good reason. It’s your favourite Malay comfort food in a highly snackable format. Fragrant pure pandan extract in the rice, umami-packed seaweed, fried chicken, Singapore-style homemade Otah-Otah with real fish-only paste, and crisp cucumber, rolled up and sitting atop a delicious mild sambal. Yours truly is especially particular about Nasi Lemak, so let me tell you this was not on my bingo card for 2026 to find a version I actually rated anything close to a 10.

Speaking of 10’s, the menu at Yin Yang has been curated and developed carefully and there truly will be something here for everyone in the family – picky eaters or Western Food lovers can indulge in fan favourites like the Salmon Tobiko Pasta which is creamy and a little salty, with a mysterious edge of smoky flavour that sends this dish into another level. Their signature Mixed Platter plays like any good Greatest Hits CD, and we are so amazed by the generous portions of their popular snacks like the Butterflied Garlic Prawns, juicy Fish Fingers made for dipping in their homemade Ranch sauce, a very essential order of Mussels Overload, and sticky Honey Sesame Wings which are full of the floral honey and sweet-spicy flavours we love in Korean Fried Chicken.  Crunch-a-licious! One of the standout orders in the menu is the Curry Laksa and before anyone starts a war, we dare you to try it and not be at the very least, impressed. This has extra lemak  or  fattiness from coconut cream  and a really good flavourful broth at its heart. Modeled on the Singapore Laksa the owner grew up eating, with a few twists, it’s slurpable, soothing and really hits the spot when you need a belly-warming meal packed with loads of condiments. Paired with a savoury sambal and a wedge of Kasturi lime, it’s a dish worth returning for again – and many loyal customers do!

There are no afterthoughts here. The drinks menu is equally well-crafted and we love the mix of caffeine and non-caffeine options like the Yin Yang Coffee which is a double caffeinated combo of black tea and coffee; a zesty Dragonfruit Mojito; refreshing Aurora Blue has a delightful pistachio syrup base. Tea lovers must try the Matcha and Earl Grey Latte Sea Salt combo, while the Golden Osmanthus gets our seal of approval as a light and addictive palate cleanser. A growing range of in-house bakes and desserts like fudgy brownies, a signature Tiramisu, and Burnt Cheesecakes, make this an ideal every-meal choice.
