A BIG FEATURE WITH THOMSON FURNITURE

Ever notice how your eye is drawn to certain visual cues? This is a fun and cheap way to create some extra zing to a room without breaking that bank. Adding in a block colour or some designs like vertical stripes to your wall or floor, not only changes the whole aesthetic of the room, it can even make it seem more spacious! If you’re keen to try adding vertical elements, make sure you go for complementary hues to your existing background wall so the room stays cohesive in style. Feeling a little extra creative? Adding unique decorations or homewares is a quick and easy way to spruce up a tired looking room. Think cute plates (yes, the ones you eat off of!) for a funky wall piece.

If you can only invest in smaller items, check out statement pieces like a stylish drinks caddy or unique side table like these choices from Thompson Furniture. Statement pieces like this Albia couch also work to draw the eye in so if you’re not fond of changing the whole room, all eyes will be on this comfy couch that has the staying power to last through the year thanks to the plush feather-fibre cushion with stain-resistance performance fabric. No need to worry about accidental spills and cat scratches!

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!

This one maybe seems a little obvious but doors are an entry point for energy, so taking care of the area around or behind them could help. Doors that can’t full open to at least a 90-degree angle are often seen as blocking the flow of ‘chi’ or energy into a space. If you like to store things to the side, make sure they’re not taking up too much space and that any door hooks for hanging items are not cluttered with unnecessary or unused items. Keeping a neat area around the front door is also meant to help welcome good energy in — plus when you come back and the first thing you see is a mess, it sets the tone for the rest of your living space.

GET RUGGY

If you can only change one thing in the house, let it be your rugs! These underdogs of interior design do so much for a space, all the while giving your feet a plushy surface to walk on. There are heaps of designs, shapes and colours nowadays so the old adage of throwing a right angled carpet down and hoping it’ll do just doesn’t work anymore — especially when you could literally customise the rug of your dreams! If you’re invoking energy flow concepts from holistic interior approaches, round rugs generally only work for very large spaces. Investing in quality rugs made from thick piled natural fibres like wool, are also recommended to improve the flow of natural energy into a space. Plus, it’s heaps better in the long run as these items will stand the test of time and wear. No cheap tattered carpets here!

GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF HOME

You guys know this already — plants can liven up any space with their amazing endless variety of shapes, sizes and colours. So why are you still hoarding those fake sunflowers from five years ago? Investing in real living plants and flowers over fake ones is another great way to liven up the energy of a stagnant space plus real plants grow so over time the atmosphere changes as they do too! Some plants also clean or purify the air quality which is genius hack for a better living environment. Just make sure to double check that all plants you place in the house are safe if you’ve got kids or pets!
